(First Showing) FILM: Meow Wolf: Origin Story

Thursday, June 18, 2020 - 4:30 PM

In one of the highest adrenaline, most unlikely success stories you’ll ever see, Meow Wolf: Origin Story takes us through the meteoric rise of a penniless, anarchic art collective as it attracts the support of George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones) and morphs into a multi-million dollar corporation in just a few short years.

With the opening of its instantly successful exhibition, House of Eternal Return, the group sets its sights on new exhibits around the world. How does a team of ragtag millennial artists become one of the most compelling new startups of this generation, and what will they do next?

Origin Story follows the seven eclectic founding members and hundreds of volunteers as they struggle with fracture, loss, success, and failure over a decade – while constantly redefining themselves and what art can really be. The film is an artistic explosion in and of itself, throwing down a kaleidoscope of color, sound, and music that brings this crazy, highly inspiring ride to life.

The artists involved in Meow Wolf bridge play, hard work and the question of financial viability in creating their work. Their communal approach to their projects and installations can bring a sense of play and interaction, but also reveal the push and pull of multiple creative visions and work styles. Can work and play co-exist?

This film screening takes place June 18, 4:30pm at the Magic Lantern Cinemas.
