ARTIST TALK: “A New Winter” with Sofía Jaramillo

Co-presented with The Community Library

Tuesday, April 23, 2024 - 5:30 PM

Sofía Jaramillo will discuss and preview her ongoing project, "A New Winter," which aims to challenge the stereotypes in winter sports culture by reimaging historic ski images. To recreate these historic images, Sofia has worked with the Jeanne Rodger Lane Center for Regional History at The Community Library to select photos and find historically accurate props and clothing from our collection. Immediately following the talk, continue the conversation at a reception at the Wood River Museum.

Raised in the Wood River Valley, Jaramillo is an accomplished photographer and film director who has worked for media outlets such as The New York Times, National Geographic, and The Guardian. Her work focuses on uplifting and telling the stories of BIPOC in outdoor spaces.

Co-presented with The Community Library. Photographs from Jaramillo’s project “A New Winter” will be part of an exhibition at SVMoA in the winter of 2025.
