WORKSHOP: Intermediate Fly-Tying

with Paddy McIlvoy

The Intermediate/Advanced Fly-Tying series is designed for people looking to refine their skills in tying their flies. In this class, instructor Paddy McIlvoy will teach students more advanced techniques for fly tying and working with a greater range of materials. Each class will focus on a single fly, so sign up for one or all three. Participants should know the basics of fly-tying. Participants will leave with the flies they create.

All materials and tools will be provided.

Age and ability: 16+ years old and intermediate level


 

Registration is per class, not the entire series.

  • Feb 13: Advanced Fly Tying - Spinning Deer Hair. Learn to spin, stack and trim deer hair.
  • Feb 20: Advanced Fly Tying - Composite Loops – Learn to create multi material dubbing loops
  • Feb 27: Advanced Fly Tying - Game Changer Style Streamers – Learn to tie multi-joint streamers that swim, dart, and wiggle.

This is a series of 3 workshops that take place from 6-8pm on Thursdays, Feb 13, Feb 20 and Feb 27 at the Hailey Classroom. Registration is per class

All supplies will be provided by SVMoA.

About the instructor:
Paddy McIlvoy started tying flies at seven years old and is just as enthusiastic about it today as he was then. He enjoys fly tying both to catch fish and as an artistic pursuit, trying to embrace creativity in both materials and technique. Paddy spent 15 years as a fly-fishing guide in the Wood River Valley, retiring from guiding in 2018. Today he is the co-owner of Backwoods Mountain Sports.
