CANCELLED: MASTER CLASS: Cold Wax Painting

with Anne Hebebrand

Monday, September 7, 2020 - 9:00 AM

Working with cold wax and oil is a very direct and immediate way of painting. The focus of the class will be on the discovery of various techniques, experimentation and risk-taking during the creative process. There will be plenty of time to paint during this five-day workshop, interspersed with demos and presentations and lots of one on one instruction.

Students will work on a series of small studies creating textured and vibrant surfaces through the layering of colors, excavating and mark making. Compositional elements, intentions and art practice questions will be discussed in an informal manner.

The workshop is well suited for those who have had some painting experience and for those who are looking for new ways to enrich their current art practice.

Class takes place Mon–Fri, Sept 7–11, from 9am–4pm daily.

Medium: Painting

Age and ability: 16 yrs. and older, beginners and intermediates

About the Instructor:

Teaching has been an integral part of Anne’s art making, helping her verbalize formal as well as philosophical ideas. In 2012 she was named Outstanding Secondary Arts Educator of the year by the Connecticut Art Education Association. Anne is a graduate from the Boston Museum School, where she was a recipient of the Dana Pond Painting Award. She has studied cold wax medium techniques with Lisa Pressman, Richard Frumess from R&F Paints, Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin.

Anne’s work explores a personal narrative mingling memory, place and imagination through overlapping layers of colors.

Anne's paintings are in private collections in the United States, Germany and Mexico, as well as on view at the Galeria de Todos Santos in Todos Santos, Baja Sur, Mexico and at Pez Gordo in Cabos San Lucas, Mexico. Anne has been featured in several publications including the New York Times and Art New England.
