Explore the Art of Radial Design through Mandalas.
In this workshop participants will learn what a mandala is and how different cultures create and utilize the symmetry and patterns of mandalas. Inspiration will be drawn from radial designs found in nature and from mandalas around the world. We will identify the different elements of mandalas and explore the use of personal symbolism in the creation of our own unique mandala designs. Participants will learn several different techniques for mandala making, and have the opportunity to choose an approach that allows them to express their creativity through a one of a kind mandala.
This workshop takes place on Thu, June 25 from 10am-4pm at the Hailey Classroom.
Supplies students need to bring:
Students can bring their own smooth/flat rocks if they’d like but the instructor will also supply plenty to choose from! Any inspirational imagery, and pack a lunch and a water bottle.
About The Instructor:
Kate is a middle school art teacher and mixed media artist with a focus on radial designs and environmental issues. She is a weekend warrior who can be found climbing on mountains and swimming in rivers, always with a sketchbook nearby. In her intricate mandala designs Kate examines the experiences and feelings she encounters while exploring the world. The designs are inspired by observations in nature and a sense of place. The patterns capture the simple, organic, and geometric lines of the natural world. Surrounded by endless inspiration she is constantly growing and evolving her artistic practice.
