MUSEUM PASSPORT: Raphael

with Art Historian Elaine French

Join SVMoA for an in-person talk by art historian Elaine French as we highlight Raphael: Sublime Poetry, an exhibition opening on March 29, 2026 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. French will discuss the life and art of Raphael, an Italian Renaissance painter and architect renowned for the harmony, clarity, and balance of his art. Raphael: Sublime Poetry showcases the artist’s late masterpieces to highlight his poetic imagination, technical brilliance, and lasting influence on Renaissance art.

 

Elaine French holds a master’s in art history from San Jose State University. She has taught art history at San Jose State as well as at the College of Southern Idaho and has lectured at Sun Valley Center for the Arts and at the Ketchum Community Library. She received a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Stanford, an Ed.M. from Harvard, and a B.A. in Art History from Wellesley College.


This in-person lecture is presented as part of SVMoA's new series Museum Passport, talks on artists featured in major museum exhibitions around the United States.
